Xapo Bank and Revolut both appeal to internationally mobile users, but they sit at very different price points. Revolut begins with a free account and sells a ladder of paid plans. Xapo charges $1,000 a year and combines a regulated USD bank account with Bitcoin custody, payment networks and a premium card.
For most people, Revolut is the easier and cheaper global spending account. Xapo becomes interesting when the USD and Bitcoin relationship is the reason for opening the account, not an extra feature that will rarely be used.

The annual-fee question
Xapo's fee schedule (opens in a new tab) makes the starting cost clear: membership is $1,000 a year. That is about $83.33 a month before any separate payment fee.
Revolut's free and paid plans vary by country. A user can start without an annual commitment, then pay for a higher plan if insurance, subscriptions, card benefits or a larger currency allowance are valuable. See our Revolut plan calculator for the exchange-only break-even point, then decide whether the non-exchange benefits change the answer.
Xapo cannot sensibly win a comparison based on one $1,000 transfer. It has to justify its membership across custody, banking, payments and card use for the whole year.
Currency exchange and card spending
Xapo says eligible international card purchases have no added currency fee or hidden markup. Its fee sheet still lists separate charges for bank payments, cash withdrawal and asset transactions. SWIFT sending, for example, costs 0.2% plus the US-dollar equivalent of £25.
Revolut uses its own exchange rate, and the free plan can add an extra charge above a monthly allowance. Country terms differ. Paid plans can increase or remove that allowance, but their subscriptions should not be counted as free.
For card spending, compare the exchange rate on a small real purchase and any plan cost you already pay. Decline a merchant's dynamic currency conversion and pay in the local currency.
Bitcoin is the dividing line
Xapo Bank treats Bitcoin as part of the banking relationship. Members can hold Bitcoin, use Lightning and choose between USD and Bitcoin for some spending. The company also advertises custody and inheritance features around the asset.
Revolut provides crypto access in supported countries, but its everyday identity is a multi-currency financial app. A person who wants to trade occasionally may prefer that simplicity. A person moving a large Bitcoin holding into a regulated banking relationship is considering a different product and risk model.
Payment rails and cash access
Xapo supports selected US, UK, European and international bank networks. Its fee sheet lists small charges for Faster Payments and SEPA, but higher charges for some US withdrawals and SWIFT payments.
Revolut also supports local and international transfers, with availability and fees tied to the user's country and plan. Neither provider should be assumed free for every bank payment. Check the exact network and recipient before sending.
Frequently asked questions
Is Xapo Bank more expensive than Revolut
Yes at account level. Xapo charges $1,000 a year, while Revolut has a free plan and lower-priced paid plans in many markets. Xapo can still be worth it to a user who values its banking and Bitcoin package.
Does Xapo charge foreign card fees
Xapo markets eligible foreign-currency card spending without an added currency fee or hidden markup. ATM operators, cash limits and other card charges can still apply.
Which is better for Bitcoin
Xapo offers the more tightly joined Bitcoin custody and banking product. Revolut may be easier for a user who wants crypto access inside a broader everyday app. Product availability and protections differ by country.
Which is better for ordinary international transfers
Revolut is usually the more practical account because it does not require a $1,000 annual commitment. Compare Wise as well when the main job is a bank transfer rather than account or card use.
