Quick take

Is Revolut a good choice?

Revolut can be one of the best-value ways to exchange money and spend abroad, especially while you remain within your plan's exchange allowance. A paid plan makes most sense when you also use benefits such as higher allowances, travel cover, cash withdrawals or bundled subscriptions.

Best for

  • Existing Revolut customers with unused monthly exchange allowance
  • People who want card spending, currency balances and payments in one app
  • Users who can make use of a paid plan's wider benefits, not just one exchange

Revolut pricing at a glance

Revolut sets its own live exchange rate and shows it in the app before confirmation. Depending on the account country and plan, an extra exchange fee may apply after the included monthly allowance has been used. Any monthly subscription is a separate cost rather than a charge for one exchange.

This is a USD-to-EUR currency-conversion example. Your exact price may differ by country and by how you pay and receive the money.

Revolut plans and monthly prices

Revolut plans vary by country. The four options below are a broad guide to the free and paid tiers shown on this page; subscription charges are separate from the exchange result. Check the app for current plans, prices, allowances and benefits where you live.

StandardNo monthly fee

The free entry plan. Exchange allowance, card features and transfer pricing vary by country, so use the limits shown in your local app. The allowance shown is about $1,450 of currency exchange each month before an extra fee applies.

Plus$2.99/mo

A lower-cost paid tier that may add purchase protections and a higher exchange allowance. The subscription, included perks and allowance vary by country. The allowance shown is about $5,100 of currency exchange each month before an extra fee applies.

Premium$7.99/mo

Often adds higher exchange or cash-withdrawal allowances and selected travel or subscription benefits. Included features, exchange terms and price vary by country. The allowance shown is about $11,600 of currency exchange each month before an extra fee applies.

Metal$13.99/mo

Can add a metal card, higher cash-withdrawal or transfer allowances, travel cover, rewards and bundled subscriptions. Price, eligibility and included benefits vary by country. This plan has no monthly currency-exchange allowance limit.

Background

About Revolut

Revolut launched in 2015 and marked its tenth anniversary in 2025. Its report records 68.3 million retail customers and 767,000 business customers at year-end 2025; the current annual-report page now says more than 75 million retail customers.

Revolut has grown from a travel-focused card and currency app into a broad financial platform. Banking status, eligible products, plan names and customer protections differ by country, so the local legal entity and in-app terms matter more than a global product list.

How Revolut pricing works

The plan comparison shows four commonly offered levels: Standard, Plus, Premium and Metal. The menu is not identical everywhere; for example, the current US offering includes Standard, Premium and Metal but not Plus.

Exchanging money and sending it to another bank are separate steps. An international payment can have its own transfer fee, and another bank involved in the payment may occasionally deduct a charge.

What else you get

Exchange, spend and send in one app

Hold several currencies, exchange between them, spend by card and make payments without opening a separate transfer-only account.

A choice of free and paid plans

Customers can choose a free account or pay for broader travel, withdrawal, protection and subscription benefits where offered.

See the price before confirming

The app shows the exchange rate and relevant transaction fees before an exchange or payment is completed where possible.

Strengths and trade-offs

Reasons to choose Revolut

  • Can be exceptionally competitive while the account remains within its exchange allowance
  • Useful for foreign-currency balances, travel spending and international payments
  • Paid plans can deliver wider value when their travel and lifestyle benefits are actively used

Reasons to compare alternatives

  • The rate is set by Revolut rather than following an independently published mid-market rate
  • Plan prices, allowances and included benefits differ by country
  • The exact exchange cost depends on the plan and how much of its allowance has already been used

Support and account checks

Revolut's US support team is available around the clock through secure in-app chat. Customers who cannot access the app can use its published support email address.

Revolut may ask for documents showing income or wealth, such as evidence connected with employment, investments or a property sale. Requests arrive by email, push notification and in the app.

If requested source-of-funds information is not supplied, Revolut says it may restrict or close the account under its terms.

When to look elsewhere

Choose Wise when you want a stand-alone bank transfer using the mid-market rate with a separate itemised fee. Compare Ria or Western Union when the recipient needs cash, and TorFX when a large transfer would benefit from a named account manager.

Large investment-related exchange?

For a large currency conversion that is part of genuine investing or trading in the account, compare Interactive Brokers first: its pricing can be difficult to beat. IBKR is a brokerage, not a stand-alone transfer service; use a transfer specialist for cash pickup or a direct payment to someone else.

What to know before you use Revolut

Use the plan details in your local app as the final authority. If no country is selected on this site, the displayed plan prices use US pricing as a general reference.

Weekend adjustments are not included in this comparison. If the app shows an additional charge outside normal market hours and the exchange is not urgent, waiting for a weekday may reduce the cost.

A monthly subscription is shown separately because customers receive benefits beyond currency exchange and may already be paying for the plan.
