Grey and Revolut both let eligible users hold and move money across currencies, but they have different geographic centres. Grey helps freelancers and remote workers in supported emerging markets receive foreign income and withdraw locally. Revolut is a wider financial app built around everyday accounts, cards, exchange and payments in its supported countries.
Availability is the first test. A strong feature list has no value if the provider does not offer the account in the country where you live.

Receiving money is not one price
Grey's account guide (opens in a new tab) lists charges by payment rail. It states that USD receipt by ACH or FedNow costs 0.8%, with a $2 minimum and $10 maximum, while a Fedwire receipt has a flat $20 fee. GBP and EUR methods have their own charges.
Revolut receiving details and charges vary by market, plan and currency. A local transfer can differ from an international SWIFT payment, and an intermediary bank may deduct money. Check the details shown for the exact balance in the app.
For either service, record what the client sends, what reaches the balance, what remains after exchange and what lands in the local bank. The last number is the comparable result.
Where Grey is stronger
Grey is built around getting foreign earnings into markets where a conventional international account can be difficult to open. A direct client may be able to send a local-style USD, GBP or EUR payment, after which the worker can convert and withdraw at home.
This is a practical collection product for invoices and remote income. Confirm that the payer type and payment purpose are allowed, and keep contracts and invoices ready for account checks.
Where Revolut is stronger
Revolut offers a broader everyday account. Eligible users can exchange currencies, spend with a card, make local payments and select from free or paid plans. It is more likely to replace part of a normal bank relationship.
Revolut is not available in every country Grey serves, and Grey is not available everywhere Revolut operates. The overlap is smaller than the feature lists suggest.
Paid plans and cards
Revolut's paid plans can add card, travel, insurance and exchange benefits. Count the subscription when you would not otherwise buy it. Use our Revolut plan calculator to test exchange savings without pretending the other plan benefits are worth zero.
Grey offers a virtual dollar card in supported markets. That can be useful for online spending, but it should be evaluated separately from receiving and withdrawing. Card creation, funding and transaction charges can differ from the account's bank-payment fees.
Frequently asked questions
Is Grey cheaper than Revolut
There is no single answer because the services charge at different stages and serve different markets. Add receiving, exchange and withdrawal costs for the exact workflow.
Can a client pay a Grey account
Yes, when the payment type, currency and payer meet Grey's account rules. Share the correct ACH, wire, UK or European details and keep the related invoice.
Can a client pay a Revolut account
Eligible Revolut users can receive supported bank payments. Available details and any charges depend on the account's country, currency and payment network.
Which is better for everyday card spending
Revolut is usually the more developed everyday card and travel account. Grey's main advantage is helping supported users receive and withdraw foreign income.
