Is Airwallex a good choice?
A strong choice for an international business that wants receiving accounts, currency conversion, supplier payments, cards and finance tools in one place; it is not a personal money-transfer service.
Best for
- Companies collecting sales in several currencies
- Teams paying overseas suppliers or staff
- Businesses that also need cards, expenses or payment acceptance
Airwallex pricing at a glance
Airwallex publishes its currency-conversion charge as an addition to interbank rates. On its current US pricing page, the standard charge is 0.5% for major currencies and 1% for other currencies. Explore has no base monthly charge in the US, while plans and prices differ in other countries.
This is a USD-to-EUR currency-conversion example. Your exact price may differ by country and by how you pay and receive the money.

About Airwallex
Airwallex was founded in Melbourne in 2015 after its founders encountered costly, slow international payments while running a café. It now has dual headquarters in Singapore and San Francisco.
Airwallex reported serving more than 200,000 businesses in 2025. Its network reaches more than 200 countries and territories, with local transfers available to more than 120 countries.
How Airwallex pricing works
The US page lists domestic USD and CAD transfers as free, local transfers to more than 120 countries, and SWIFT payments at $15–$25. A local transfer can therefore cost less than a SWIFT payment even when the currencies and amount are the same.
The US Explore plan is free and includes up to 10 Spend users. Grow costs $12 per active user each month plus a platform fee based on team size. UK and European Explore plans cost £19 or €19 monthly unless the stated £10,000 or €10,000 deposit or balance threshold is met. Australia lists A$29, waived after A$5,000 monthly deposits or a A$10,000 balance.
Payment acceptance, extra active users, cards, expenses and other products can have their own charges. Price the company's real monthly workflow instead of treating the 0.5% major-currency figure as the entire Airwallex cost.
What else you get
One international business account
Collect and hold more than 20 currencies, then convert or pay from the same platform.
Broader finance tools
Corporate cards, expense controls, bill payments, invoicing, payment acceptance and accounting links can reduce the number of separate systems a business needs.
Strengths and trade-offs
Reasons to choose Airwallex
- Clear standard major-currency conversion charge in the markets checked
- Free local transfers across a large supported network
- Useful controls and integrations for growing finance teams
Reasons to compare alternatives
- Designed for businesses, not people sending personal transfers
- Plans, supported features and transaction charges vary by registration country
- International bank transfers can add Airwallex and third-party bank charges
Support and account checks
Help-centre and email support are included; dedicated account management and onboarding support are reserved for custom-priced plans on the US page.
Account checks normally cover the registered business, its directors, the person applying and owners who ultimately control 25% or more.
Airwallex may ask for contracts, invoices, a business plan or evidence showing where money came from, especially for a new or higher-risk business.
When to look elsewhere
Choose Wise Business for a simpler transfer-first account, Currenxie for business collections and volume-based conversion pricing, or OFX when a large transfer and phone access to a specialist matter more than a full finance platform.
Large investment-related exchange?
For a large currency conversion that is part of genuine investing or trading in the account, compare Interactive Brokers first: its pricing can be difficult to beat. IBKR is a brokerage, not a stand-alone transfer service; use a transfer specialist for cash pickup or a direct payment to someone else.
What to know before you use Airwallex
The public US price is a useful reference, but the contract for your country and business is the price that applies.
Free local delivery does not mean every international payment is free: conversion, international-transfer, receiving-bank and optional product charges can still apply.
Explore is not free in every market. Check the monthly price, waiver threshold, included users and per-user charges for the country where the business is registered.
Compare the transfer alone if you do not need Airwallex's cards, payment acceptance or finance software, then compare the wider workflow if those tools can replace other systems.
