Xapo Bank $1,000 membership and fees test for 2026

See what Xapo Bank's annual membership and published Swift charges mean at three payment sizes, and when the broader account could justify the cost.

··3 min read

Xapo Bank charges $1,000 a year for membership. Its published fee sheet then lists separate prices for bank payments, card use, cash withdrawal and digital-asset activity. That structure makes a one-line “Xapo transfer fee” misleading.

This test applies the published SWIFT sending formula to three payment sizes. It does not value Bitcoin custody, card use, account interest or other membership benefits. It also excludes intermediary-bank deductions and any currency conversion needed around the payment.

The published SWIFT formula

Xapo lists the charge for sending money through SWIFT as 0.2% plus the US-dollar equivalent of £25.

Payment amount0.2% partFixed partPayment charge before other banks
$1,000$2USD equivalent of £25$2 plus USD equivalent of £25
$10,000$20USD equivalent of £25$20 plus USD equivalent of £25
$100,000$200USD equivalent of £25$200 plus USD equivalent of £25

The table keeps the fixed fee in pounds because converting it with today's rate would make a dated approximation look like part of Xapo's official schedule. The customer's final dollar charge is determined when the fee is applied.

Add the membership only when it belongs

The $1,000 annual fee is about $83.33 a month. Assigning all of it to one transfer makes sense when the transfer is the only reason to open Xapo. Assigning none of it makes sense only when the user would keep the membership for banking and Bitcoin services even without that payment.

A practical annual-value worksheet is:

Benefit or costYour annual value

Do not count promotional cashback at full value unless the offer will run for the period and the spending qualifies.

Local payments are a different test

The Xapo fee sheet (opens in a new tab) lists small fixed charges for Faster Payments and SEPA. US ACH and wire deposits or withdrawals use other fixed and percentage prices. The expensive SWIFT example should not be copied onto a local European payment.

Choose the payment network first. A user sending euros through SEPA is making a different payment from someone sending dollars through SWIFT.

Who can justify the membership

The strongest case is a person with a meaningful Bitcoin holding who wants custody, USD banking, payment access and an international card in one regulated relationship. That user is buying a package, not shopping for the lowest one-off transfer fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Xapo Bank membership

The published fee sheet lists $1,000 a year for maintaining the account package.

How much does a Xapo SWIFT payment cost

The fee sheet lists 0.2% plus the US-dollar equivalent of £25. Intermediary banks may also deduct charges.

Does every Xapo payment use the SWIFT fee

No. Faster Payments, SEPA, ACH and other networks have their own prices. Use the row matching the actual payment.

Is Xapo worth $1,000 a year

It can be for a user who places high value on the combined USD banking and Bitcoin service. It is unlikely to be good value when used only for occasional ordinary transfers.
