Singapore to India transfers are offered by banks, app-based specialists, and remittance shops, but their delivery products are not identical. First identify whether the recipient needs an Indian bank credit or an eligible cash payout. Then compare the final INR from providers licensed for cross-border money transfer in Singapore.
The live SGD to INR mid-market reference is about 74.6139. Our tables model published fees and exchange-rate effects against that reference. They do not confirm customer approval, transfer purpose, recipient support, local payout arrangement, or delivery time.
- Check the Singapore legal entity in MAS's directory. Look for “Cross-border Money Transfer Service” under the entity's payment licence, not only a familiar trading name.
- For Indian bank credit, verify the beneficiary's registered name, account number, bank, and IFSC.
- Cash has separate Indian limits. RBI's MTSS rules cap each eligible personal remittance and restrict cash payout; bank credit under RDA follows different conditions.
- Compare total SGD debited with final INR received. Card funding, shop payment, and bank transfer can carry different costs even within one provider.
Live SGD to INR cost comparison
At S$1,000, the published pricing model currently produces this ordering:
Wise's modelled cost is approximately 0.40% all-in, or SGD 3.96. That figure is a standardised cost estimate. It is not confirmation that Wise or any other listed provider supports your purpose, account, cash product, funding method, or transfer size.
At S$10,000, re-check the ranking and expect more source-of-funds questions:
Run the comparison tool with your amount, then request final quotes for the same payout. Record the total SGD debit, INR promised, quote expiry, funding fee, estimated delivery, and any promotion. If you send monthly, compare the repeat-customer quote as well as the first-transfer offer.
Verify the provider in Singapore
The Monetary Authority of Singapore's Financial Institutions Directory can be filtered for payment institutions authorised to provide a Cross-border Money Transfer Service. Search the exact company named in the app's terms or receipt. A brand can use a different incorporated entity in Singapore, and an entity may hold several permitted payment activities.
The directory is a licence check, not a recommendation or price ranking. Also inspect the provider's funding instructions, cancellation process, complaint channel, and document requests. If account details arrive through an unexpected message, verify them inside the provider's official app before paying.
Match the transfer to India's payout rules
Bank account credit
RBI's Rupee Drawing Arrangement guidance supports permitted personal inward remittances paid to a beneficiary bank account and does not allow cash payout. Its FAQ states no amount or frequency limit for permitted personal RDA transfers, while providers and recipient banks can set their own lower limits and compliance requirements.
Ask the recipient to copy their exact registered name, account number, bank, and IFSC from the bank app or statement. RBI required banks to offer a beneficiary account-name lookup for NEFT and RTGS by 1 April 2025. Use a returned name as a check, but still confirm details with the recipient.
Eligible cash payout
RBI's Money Transfer Service Scheme is for personal inward remittances only. The rules cap each transfer at the equivalent of US$2,500 and set a maximum of 30 transfers to one beneficiary in a calendar year. Cash payout is limited to ₹50,000; any larger eligible payout must be made by an account-payee instrument or account credit. MTSS cannot be used for trade, property, investments, donations, or NRE-account credit.
A provider appearing in the cost table is not proof that it offers MTSS cash service. Confirm the exact product, Indian agent, ID requirement, and collection deadline.
Funding in Singapore
A provider may accept local bank transfer, debit card, or payment at a physical outlet. The cheapest method is not always the fastest. Card funding can have a higher provider fee, while bank transfer may require time for matching and clearance. A shop may accept cash but quote a different rate from the app.
Compare the total SGD leaving your hands or account with the INR the recipient can use. Do not mix an online account-credit quote with an outlet cash-pickup quote. Singapore is two and a half hours ahead of India, so a transfer started late in Singapore can miss an Indian payout or bank-review window even on the same calendar date.
Purpose, records, and recipient tax
Use the correct purpose for family maintenance, reimbursement, tuition, medical cost, gift, loan, property, investment, or business payment. A provider designed for personal remittances may not support every category.
India's Income Tax Department says gifts from defined relatives are exempt. Where a gift is from a non-relative, covered gifts above ₹50,000 in aggregate for the financial year can make the entire covered aggregate taxable, subject to listed exceptions. Keep the transfer confirmation and relationship or purpose evidence. Tax is not included in our modelled cost, and a recipient should obtain advice for a significant payment.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check a remittance provider in Singapore?
Search the legal entity in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory and confirm that its listed activities include Cross-border Money Transfer Service. Match the entity to the terms or receipt, not only the app logo.
Can I send cash for collection in India?
Only through a provider and product eligible under India's rules. MTSS limits the transfer to US$2,500 equivalent, restricts frequency, and caps cash payout at ₹50,000. Verify the recipient's collection documents and agent before paying.
Does the Indian beneficiary-name lookup eliminate all mistakes?
No. It is a useful check based on the account number and IFSC, but the overseas provider may implement it differently. Confirm the recipient's details independently and review the displayed name before sending.
Is the cheapest modelled provider always usable?
No. The model ranks published fee and rate cost. Licence, onboarding, purpose, payout, limits, recipient support, and timing are separate. Read our markup versus transfer fee guide and confirm checkout.
Cost figures use published provider fee and rate methods against the current mid-market reference.
