Is YouTrip a good choice?
YouTrip is an excellent travel-spending companion for eligible Singapore residents, with no published annual fee or normal foreign-currency spending fee and the ability to exchange selected currencies in advance. Its overseas bank-transfer feature is a useful extra, but it is more limited than the travel wallet.
Best for
- Eligible Singapore residents spending by card overseas
- Holding and pre-exchanging YouTrip's 12 supported wallet currencies
- Singapore-based SGD transfers to a supported overseas bank recipient
YouTrip pricing at a glance
Under normal use, YouTrip's Singapore pricing lists no annual fee, card-spending fee or in-app currency-exchange fee. Overseas bank transfers have their own variable fee, while Visa credit-card top-ups currently carry a 1.5% service fee.
This is a USD-to-EUR currency-conversion example. Your exact price may differ by country and by how you pay and receive the money.
About YouTrip
YouTrip launched in 2018 and describes itself as a multi-currency e-wallet for travel and online spending. It supports card payments in more than 150 currencies and lets users hold and exchange 12 selected wallet currencies.
The Singapore product is issued by You Technologies Group (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a major payment institution licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The company's public product is regional rather than a general sender service available from every country.
How YouTrip pricing works
The wallet can hold and exchange 12 selected currencies, while the Mastercard can pay in more than 150 currencies. When a purchase uses a currency that is not held in the wallet, the applicable card conversion takes place at the time of payment.
Overseas bank transfers are paid from an SGD balance added through PayNow or a linked bank account. Money added by card cannot be used for this feature, and the transfer fee is shown before confirmation.
What else you get
Travel spending in more than 150 currencies
The Mastercard supports overseas and online purchases without a published foreign-currency spending fee under normal Singapore account use.
Exchange and hold 12 currencies
Customers can exchange selected currencies in advance and keep them ready for a future trip or purchase.
Overseas bank transfers from Singapore
Eligible customers can send an SGD-funded balance to bank recipients in local currency across more than 40 supported countries.
Strengths and trade-offs
Reasons to choose YouTrip
- Strong combination of travel spending and selected currency balances
- No published annual or normal in-app exchange fee for the Singapore account
- Adds overseas bank transfers for eligible Singapore customers
Reasons to compare alternatives
- Only 12 currencies can be held even though the card can spend in many more
- The overseas-transfer feature is available only from an eligible SGD balance
- Transfer fees vary, and money added by card cannot be sent to an overseas bank recipient
Support and account checks
Singapore sign-up uses Singpass MyInfo or manual verification with a Singapore-issued identity document, address evidence where required and a live face recording.
Manual applications generally take one to two working days after submission, according to YouTrip's support page.
Each overseas transfer has compliance checks. Some currencies require the transfer reason and source of income, and extra requests can delay processing.
When to look elsewhere
Choose Wise or Revolut when broader country availability, more currency balances or international bank transfers are the priority. For a transfer from outside Singapore, compare a provider available in the sender's country; use Ria or Western Union when the recipient needs cash.
Large investment-related exchange?
For a large currency conversion that is part of genuine investing or trading in the account, compare Interactive Brokers first: its pricing can be difficult to beat. IBKR is a brokerage, not a stand-alone transfer service; use a transfer specialist for cash pickup or a direct payment to someone else.
What to know before you use YouTrip
YouTrip is primarily a travel wallet and card. The amount shown for exchanging money in the wallet is not an overseas bank-transfer quote.
The overseas-transfer feature uses SGD added through PayNow or a linked bank account. YouTrip Family and Child accounts cannot use it.
Products and eligibility differ between Singapore and Thailand, so customers should use the terms for the country where they hold the account.
