Is OFX a good choice?
Particularly well suited to a large personal or business payment when human support and currency planning matter more than the cheapest small-transfer fee.
Best for
- Large property, investment or relocation transfers
- Businesses paying overseas suppliers regularly
- Customers who want to discuss a transfer with a currency specialist
OFX pricing at a glance
OFX earns money through the difference between its customer exchange rate and the underlying market rate. The offered rate depends on the currency pair, amount, timing and customer arrangement.
This is a USD-to-EUR currency-conversion example. Your exact price may differ by country and by how you pay and receive the money.
About OFX
OFX began in Sydney in 1998 as an online foreign-exchange information service and added online transfers in 2001. The group listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2013.
OFX now reports more than one million clients and more than 700 employees. Its service covers more than 50 currencies and a broad range of personal, business and corporate uses.
How OFX pricing works
Transfer-fee policies differ by signup country. Some regions charge a fixed fee below a stated amount, while larger transfers or transfers that include conversion may have no separate OFX fee.
The recipient's bank or another bank involved in the payment can still deduct charges. Review the OFX deal confirmation and ask whether the recipient needs to receive an exact amount before funding the transfer.

Specialist help at any hour
OFX combines online and app access with phone support from teams across several time zones.
Tools for planned payments
Eligible customers can use rate alerts, scheduled or recurring transfers and forward contracts for future business or personal needs.
Strengths and trade-offs
Reasons to choose OFX
- Strong fit for larger transfers
- 24/7 human support
- Personal, small-business and corporate services
Reasons to compare alternatives
- The exchange-rate margin is not one fixed public percentage worldwide
- Small transfers can face a separate fee in some signup countries
- No cash-pickup or mobile-wallet delivery network
- Forward contracts add obligations and are not suitable for every customer
Support and account checks
OFX publishes 24/7 phone and online support, including help with registration and larger payments.
Customers must complete identity and account checks, and OFX can verify that the funding bank account belongs to the customer or business.
A larger or unusual transfer may require a bank statement, contract, sale document or other evidence showing the payment purpose and where the money came from.
When to look elsewhere
Choose Wise for a smaller self-service transfer with an itemised live price, CurrencyFair for a focused bank-transfer service with rate alerts, or Airwallex when a business needs accounts, cards and spending controls as well as transfers.
Large investment-related exchange?
For a large currency conversion that is part of genuine investing or trading in the account, compare Interactive Brokers first: its pricing can be difficult to beat. IBKR is a brokerage, not a stand-alone transfer service; use a transfer specialist for cash pickup or a direct payment to someone else.
What to know before you use OFX
The rate shown on a general currency calculator is informational; the customer rate in the booked deal is the one that applies.
Confirm the small-transfer fee for the country where the account is registered.
Allow time for funding, account checks and any bank involved in the payment before a deadline such as a property completion.
