N26 is a mobile bank for residents of supported European countries. It provides a euro bank account, debit card and app-based tools for everyday spending, saving and money management rather than operating as a stand-alone personal-transfer service.

Is N26 a good choice?
A convenient everyday European bank for card spending and travel features; choose a dedicated transfer provider when the main job is sending money abroad.
Best for
- Eligible European residents who want a mobile current account
- Card spending while travelling
- Customers who value budgeting, savings and travel benefits in the same app
N26 pricing at a glance
N26 offers a free Standard account and paid account levels. On its general European page, Smart is €4.90, Go is €9.90 and Metal is €16.90 per month, but country prices and included benefits can differ.
This is a USD-to-EUR currency-conversion example. Your exact price may differ by country and by how you pay and receive the money.
About N26
N26 was founded in Berlin in 2013 and operates with a full German banking licence. It is an app-first bank rather than a branch-based transfer specialist.
N26's current newsroom lists 24 countries and about 1,600 employees. Its focus is everyday banking for European customers, including spending, saving, investing and account transfers.
How N26 pricing works
Foreign-currency card purchases use Mastercard's exchange rate and N26 says it does not add a foreign-transaction charge. The final card amount can still move between authorisation and settlement as the Mastercard rate changes.
For cash withdrawals outside the euro area, N26 currently lists a 1.7% charge on Standard and Smart and no N26 foreign-withdrawal charge on Go and Metal. ATM operators can add their own fee, and country terms can differ.
What else you get
Full everyday bank account
The account combines a euro balance, card, transfers, spending controls and instant notifications in one app.
Travel extras on paid accounts
Higher account levels add benefits such as more cash withdrawals, travel cover and purchase or phone protection, with terms varying by country.
Strengths and trade-offs
Reasons to choose N26
- Free entry account for eligible residents
- No N26 foreign-transaction charge on card purchases
- German bank licence and deposit protection for eligible deposits
Reasons to compare alternatives
- Only available to residents of supported European countries
- Paid travel benefits may not justify a monthly plan for occasional use
- It is an everyday bank first, so international-transfer coverage is narrower than a specialist's
Support and account checks
Support is primarily app and online based; the channels included can depend on the account level.
Opening an account requires identity verification using an accepted document and a selfie, video call or supported electronic-ID route.
Accepted documents depend on nationality, residence and signup country, so an otherwise valid document may not be supported for a particular application.
When to look elsewhere
Choose Wise for a dedicated international transfer and wider multi-currency tools, Revolut for more plan-based exchange and travel features, or a conventional bank when branch access and direct international wire capability are important.
Large investment-related exchange?
For a large currency conversion that is part of genuine investing or trading in the account, compare Interactive Brokers first: its pricing can be difficult to beat. IBKR is a brokerage, not a stand-alone transfer service; use a transfer specialist for cash pickup or a direct payment to someone else.
What to know before you use N26
Plan names, prices, insurance and withdrawal allowances are country-specific; use the N26 page for the country where the account is registered.
A good card exchange rate does not automatically make N26 the cheapest way to send money to someone else's bank account.
Insurance and other paid-plan benefits have eligibility rules, exclusions and claims procedures.
