Detailed transfer guide

Detailed EUR to TRY transfer guide

We compare the real cost of sending euros from Germany to Turkish lira and show, with current estimates, which provider leaves your family the most money.

··Updated ·5 min read

For a Germany to Türkiye transfer, the best service depends on the final lira, the quote's expiry, and how the recipient can receive it. A Turkish bank credit and cash pickup are different products, and the lowest modelled fee is not proof that either product is available.

For €1,000, Wise's published pricing works out in our model to about €6.31, or 0.63%. Use that as a benchmark against checkout quotes, not as a guaranteed result.

The short version
  • For a Turkish bank account, confirm the recipient's registered name and TR IBAN. A local FAST or EFT credit can be quick after the overseas provider completes conversion and compliance checks.
  • The lira can move during a short quote window. Compare quotes at nearly the same time and note whether the receiving amount is locked.
  • Check the legal provider entity. Germany and the EEA maintain registers for authorised payment and e-money institutions.
  • The tables rank modelled cost, not access. Payout, customer eligibility, purpose, limits, documents, taxes, and delivery must be verified with the provider.

Run the comparison tool for your amount, then request the same payout from two or more eligible providers. Record the EUR debited, TRY promised, rate-lock deadline, funding fee, recipient deduction, and estimated availability. A quote that expires in minutes should not be compared with one captured hours earlier during a moving market.

Turkish bank payout: IBAN, FAST, and EFT

Ask the recipient to copy their full account name and TR IBAN from their banking app or statement. Do not replace an IBAN with a phone number unless the provider explicitly supports a linked identifier for that product.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye operates FAST, an instant TRY payment system. Its current FAQ says FAST works 24/7, completes payments within seconds, and has a standard transaction limit of TRY 100,000. A local payment can be addressed by IBAN or, where the financial institution supports the Easy Address service, a linked phone number, email, identity number, tax number, or passport number.

Those are domestic FAST features. They do not mean an international provider uses FAST, supports every Easy Address type, or delivers the whole cross-border transfer in seconds. Above the current FAST limit, or where the payout partner uses a different rail, an EFT or internal bank transfer may be used and bank processing times can apply.

Cash pickup is a separate quote

Cash can help a recipient without practical account access, but compare the actual collection branch. Verify the recipient's exact legal name, accepted ID, reference number, currency paid, opening hours, collection deadline, and refund terms. Do not assume that a provider listed for bank-deposit cost also offers cash in the recipient's town.

Ask whether the recipient receives TRY or another currency and whether the agent performs a second conversion. The final usable amount, not the brand's advertised fee, is the relevant price.

Check the German or EEA provider entity

BaFin says businesses carrying out regulated payment or e-money services in Germany generally need permission, and its company database can be used to check supervised entities. A provider authorised elsewhere in the EEA may operate in Germany under passporting rules. The European Banking Authority's central PSD2 register collects payment and e-money institution records supplied by national authorities and links to national registers.

Search the legal entity in the provider terms rather than only the consumer brand. Confirm the stated activity and country of authorisation. A register entry does not identify the cheapest service; it helps verify who is handling the payment.

Timing and lira quote risk

A provider may lock the TRY amount only after receiving your EUR. A German bank transfer that arrives after the lock expires can require a new quote. Card funding may confirm sooner but cost more. Compare the full debit and read what happens if funding arrives late.

The international journey can include German funding clearance, identity or source-of-funds review, conversion, Turkish partner processing, recipient-bank screening, weekends, and public holidays. A fast domestic rail only shortens its own leg.

For recurring support, compare each send afresh. A saved provider choice does not fix the future exchange rate or markup. For a large payment, keep the purpose documents and do a small verified transfer before sending the balance if timing permits.

Frequently asked questions

Does FAST make a Germany to Türkiye transfer instant?

Not by itself. FAST can move the domestic TRY payout within seconds after the overseas provider has funded and instructed its Turkish partner. Funding, conversion, compliance review, and provider processing happen before that stage.

Can I send to a Turkish phone number instead of an IBAN?

FAST's Easy Address service can link certain identifiers to an account, but an international provider may still require the TR IBAN. Use only the identifier requested by that provider and confirm the returned recipient details.

Why does the TRY quote expire quickly?

Providers manage exchange-rate movement by limiting how long a receiving amount is held. Check when the provider must receive your EUR and what happens after expiry. Compare providers at the same time for a fair test.

Are the rankings final quotes?

No. They are estimates using published fee and rate models. Authorisation, customer eligibility, funding, payout, limits, documents, and timing require direct confirmation. See our guide to exchange-rate markup for the cost method.
