Is TransferGo a good choice?
TransferGo is a strong digital choice for European senders who want a clear price preview and the flexibility to pay by bank, card or an account balance. It is especially useful when speed matters but the sender still wants to compare faster card payment with a lower-cost bank option.
Best for
- Digital bank or card-funded transfers to a supported recipient country
- People who also need selected European currency balances and account details
- Senders who want a choice between cost-focused bank funding and faster card funding
TransferGo pricing at a glance
TransferGo uses starting prices rather than one fixed worldwide fee. Its current personal pricing page advertises currency exchange from 0.5%, exchange between balances already held in the account from 0.2%, and bank or card transfers from 0.2%. The exact price is shown before payment.
This is a USD-to-EUR currency-conversion example. Your exact price may differ by country and by how you pay and receive the money.
About TransferGo
TransferGo has operated since 2012 and says it serves customers across more than 160 countries. It began as a transfer service and now also offers personal and business accounts.
The current product includes international transfers, a free multi-currency account and a card in supported markets. TransferGo Ltd is a UK-authorised electronic money institution, while a Lithuanian entity serves relevant European customers.
How TransferGo pricing works
The final exchange rate and fee depend on the currencies, amount, destination, how the sender pays and how quickly the money is delivered. TransferGo displays the total and expected recipient amount before confirmation.
Card payment can be convenient when speed is important, while bank payment may offer a lower price. A card issuer or another bank involved in the transfer can add a charge outside TransferGo's own price.
What else you get
Choose between bank and card payment
Customers can select the payment option that best balances price and speed for a particular transfer.
A multi-currency account
Eligible customers can hold selected currencies, receive money and make payments from the same account.
Personal and business services
TransferGo supports both everyday personal transfers and international business payments through separate account options.
Strengths and trade-offs
Reasons to choose TransferGo
- Shows the exchange rate, fee and expected recipient amount before payment
- Offers bank, card and account-balance payment in supported markets
- Combines international transfers with selected account and card features
Reasons to compare alternatives
- The advertised starting price is not the exact price for every transfer
- Its account supports fewer currencies than its wider transfer service
- It does not have the extensive walk-in cash network offered by Ria or Western Union
Support and account checks
TransferGo publishes in-app and web support hours, including shorter weekend hours, rather than promising continuous live-agent availability.
Verification may require photo identification, proof of residence and proof of source of funds. TransferGo may also check a recipient when required.
Compliance checks, partner procedures and banking cut-off times can delay a transfer beyond the displayed typical time.
When to look elsewhere
Choose Wise for a wider multi-currency account and transfers using the mid-market rate. TorFX is better suited to a large payment where personal guidance matters, while Ria or Western Union offers much broader cash pickup.
Large investment-related exchange?
For a large currency conversion that is part of genuine investing or trading in the account, compare Interactive Brokers first: its pricing can be difficult to beat. IBKR is a brokerage, not a stand-alone transfer service; use a transfer specialist for cash pickup or a direct payment to someone else.
What to know before you use TransferGo
TransferGo is an electronic-money company rather than a bank. Money held with its UK service is safeguarded separately but is not protected by the UK's bank deposit-protection scheme.
Countries, currencies and ways to pay or receive money vary, so check the exact transfer before opening an account for one particular purpose.
Identity checks, another bank's processing time and banking cut-off times can occasionally delay delivery.
