For a small weekday conversion inside the modelled Revolut allowance, Revolut can estimate below Interactive Brokers because IBKR applies a USD 2 equivalent minimum commission. When a larger supported currency trade will buy an investment, settle a position or hedge exposure inside the brokerage, IBKR often takes over decisively: its minimum becomes a tiny percentage of the amount, while Revolut's spread or excess fee scales.
- Small weekday conversions inside an allowance: Revolut can rank first. The site models its dynamic rate with a small spread, while IBKR has a USD 2 equivalent floor.
- Larger investment-linked conversions: IBKR often ranks first. Its Tier I commission is 0.002%, subject to that minimum.
- Do not use the table as a weekend-execution quote. We intentionally omit timing-specific adjustments and recommend waiting for the market to reopen.
- The products solve different jobs. IBKR's currency trade should support genuine investing, trading or hedging in the brokerage; Revolut is an everyday account and app.
How Revolut charges
What you pay Revolut depends on your legal entity, country, plan, earlier exchange usage, currencies, and timing. The site keeps Standard and the paid plans visible, models Revolut's dynamic rate with a small spread, and applies the representative stored allowance and overage assumptions. Those assumptions are not a substitute for the fee page and remaining allowance shown in your app.
- Standard is the free option in the comparison.
- Plus, Premium, and Metal remain visible so existing subscribers can compare the transfer benefit associated with their plan.
- Monthly plan prices appear separately on the result cards and are not deducted from a single transfer estimate.
- Regional terms control. Use the prices, allowances, and weekend window shown for your own account.
How Interactive Brokers charges
Interactive Brokers charges its Tier I spot-FX commission at 0.20 basis points (0.002%) of trade value, with a USD 2 equivalent minimum per order. Convert Currency submits a market order, so the executable bid/ask spread and slippage can change the result. For USD orders, $1,000 and $10,000 are below IBKR's published $25,000 standard-order minimum and are odd lots; $25,000 reaches the standard-size band. The comparison omits unsupported direct pairs and orders above IBKR's published standard-size maximum.
You need a funded, eligible brokerage account and a currency trade connected to investment, trading or hedging activity there. That setup can be well worth it on a large order. The estimate excludes the final traded price, withdrawal charges, bank fees and taxes. See the full breakdown on the Interactive Brokers provider page.
Head to head, by amount
The modelled winner can flip with size and earlier allowance usage. Here is the same US-dollar-to-euro conversion at three amounts using current estimates.
$1,000: Revolut's spread-only tier wins
On a $1,000 weekday conversion inside the limit, Revolut Standard's spread-only model (0.10%) ranks below IBKR's USD 2 equivalent minimum (0.20%). The IBKR order is an odd lot, so confirm its executable price rather than treating the widget as a universal winner.
$10,000: the picture flips
At $10,000, some modelled Revolut plans are beyond their stored allowance. Even Metal's modelled rate (0.10%) costs more than IBKR's USD 2 equivalent minimum (0.02%) in this scenario. This is still an IBKR odd lot, so check regional Revolut terms and the executable IBKR quote.
$25,000: IBKR's minimum is a small percentage
On a $25,000 conversion, IBKR's USD 2 equivalent floor works out to 0.01% in the model, while Revolut Metal estimates $25.00 and Standard about $142.61. IBKR's percentage commission eventually rises above the minimum, so it is not a permanently flat USD 2 charge.
The monthly fee, honestly
Revolut's plan price is a separate membership decision. We show it beside every paid plan but do not subtract a monthly subscription from the transfer estimate. That lets an existing subscriber compare what their plan provides without making a single conversion appear to pay for the whole membership.
Who should pick what
Converting a small amount on a weekday inside your allowance? Check Revolut first, then confirm the rate and remaining allowance in your app.
Making a larger exchange for an investment, trade or hedge inside a brokerage? Check Interactive Brokers first, including the supported pair and live price.
Don't want a brokerage account? Check Revolut for small conversions, or see our Wise vs Interactive Brokers guide for a dedicated transfer-account alternative.
Either way, avoid your bank. Both beat a bank's 3%+ markup by a wide margin. Run your exact amount through the comparison tool to see the current estimates.
Frequently asked questions
Is Revolut cheaper than Interactive Brokers?
It can be in the site's small weekday scenario, where the modelled Revolut spread is below IBKR's USD 2 equivalent minimum. For a larger exchange that supports investing, trading or hedging inside the brokerage, IBKR often ranks first, but eligibility, buying-versus-selling price difference and withdrawal costs differ, so there is no universal crossover point.
Does Revolut's weekend markup apply to every plan?
Weekend pricing depends on the customer's Revolut country, plan, currencies, and the provider's defined market-hours window. This site does not add a weekend adjustment to either row and does not treat IBKR as a weekend transfer alternative. If possible, wait for the next weekday and confirm both executable prices then.
Can I use Interactive Brokers like a money-transfer app?
Not really. IBKR is a brokerage: you fund an eligible account, Convert Currency submits a market order, and you withdraw through an eligible banking route. Timing and fees can vary, and it is not designed as the same quick way to pay another person that a dedicated transfer service provides.
Cost figures are worked out from each provider's published fee structure applied to the current mid-market reference rate, modelled estimates for typical major currency pairs. Revolut's fair-use limits and plan prices vary by region; the figures shown are representative. Always confirm the final quote on the provider's own site before you transfer. We may earn a commission from affiliate links at no extra cost to you; this never affects rankings. Nothing here is financial advice.
