Wise Business vs Airwallex vs Revolut Business for a US company

All three can receive, hold, exchange and send multiple currencies. The better account depends on whether the company mainly moves money, operates a finance team, or can use a monthly plan allowance efficiently.

The short answer

Wise Business is the easiest transfer-first account to understand. It has no monthly subscription, shows the conversion price before payment and can apply lower pricing as eligible monthly volume increases. It is a strong starting point for a freelancer, agency or smaller company that mainly needs local account details, currency conversion and international bank payments.

Airwallex is the broader finance-operations platform. Its Explore plan combines global accounts, batch payments, cards, bill pay and accounting connections without a base monthly fee in the United States. The appeal is less about winning every individual conversion and more about replacing several disconnected tools.

Revolut Business works best with predictable activity. Grow or Scale can be very competitive when a company consistently uses the plan’s exchange and payment allowances. A subscription is less compelling in a quiet month, but can become economical when the company also values team cards, spend controls and other plan features.

For receiving customer revenue

Wise Business gives a US company local account details after its one-time setup payment. Domestic USD ACH receipt is published as free; a domestic wire or SWIFT receipt costs more. This works well when clients can pay by bank transfer and the business wants a straightforward balance to convert or withdraw.

Airwallex Global Accounts are more closely connected to a wider payments stack. The same account can sit beside card acceptance, billing, local payment methods and like-for-like settlement. That makes it more useful when the company is building its own checkout or consolidating revenue from several markets.

Revolut can receive supported currencies and does not count inbound GBP, USD, EUR and CHF transfers against the published plan allowance. A US domestic wire still carries a separate $10 charge, so local ACH is usually the cleaner receipt path.

For paying suppliers and contractors

Wise is easiest to evaluate when the business sends occasional payments. Each price stands on its own, and higher monthly conversion volume can reduce the percentage fee. It also offers batch payments, so ten invoices do not have to be entered manually.

Airwallex is strongest when payment is part of accounts payable: upload or create bills, set approvals, convert funds and pay through a local rail where available. A local payout can avoid the $15–$25 SWIFT charge, so check the destination currency and rail rather than assuming every international payment uses SWIFT.

Revolut Grow and Scale include bulk transfers and a set number of international payments. The allowance is valuable only when the business actually uses it. A quiet month still carries the full subscription; a busy month can cross both the FX and payment limits.

Which account fits which business?

Freelancer or small agency

Start with Wise when the need is mainly invoicing, receiving bank payments and converting a few times per month. Its pay-as-you-go structure makes a low or irregular volume easier to manage without trying to recover a subscription cost.

E-commerce or SaaS company

Compare Airwallex when checkout, local settlement, corporate cards, accounting feeds and supplier payments should sit together. The strongest case is operational: revenue collection and spending can stay in one system, sometimes without converting between each step.

Team with stable monthly FX

Model Revolut Grow and Scale when predictable conversion volume can absorb the full allowances and the company values its spend controls. Compare a normal month with a peak month, because exceeding both the exchange and payment allowances changes the economics.

Run the workflow, not only the exchange

A company receiving USD and paying a USD supplier may avoid conversion completely. A platform charging 0.5% can then beat a cheaper FX provider if it prevents two unnecessary exchanges. Likewise, a $40 plan can be cheaper than pay-as-you-go pricing at one volume and wasteful at another.

Before choosing, write down the currencies received, currencies paid, number of recipients, expected monthly conversion, team users, required approval steps and whether the destination can receive a local payment. Price that path for a normal month and a peak month.

How to use this research

Treat the result as a shortlist for the stated company country and workflow. Business onboarding, transaction purpose, monthly volume, transfer rail and negotiated pricing can change the final cost. Reproduce the complete path in the provider account before moving company funds.

The tables keep plan charges, one-time setup costs and payment fees separate from the currency price. That makes the result reusable without pretending every business product works in the same way.
